Born in Chanta, Veritas was taken as a young child to the Heavenly Court in Yu-Shan to study until she Exalted. She accepted Saturn, the Maiden of Endings, at age twenty-five and studied for thirty years under the Sidereals of the Bureau of Destiny.
She eventually left after having a vision of her parents' death and arrived at their new home (outside of the redwood forest) during a Linowan raid into Haltan territory. Despite her efforts, her family was slaughtered. At that point, Veritas returned to Chanta to serve the Council of Elders as an oracle. Over the next two hundred years, her hatred for the Linowan grew to monstrous proportions as her people suffered time and again. At that point, she sought out the Fae to strike a greater alliance with the Haltan Republic so that Fae would better guard the Haltan/Linowan borders.
King Owain of the "Seelie" Fae sent her on reconnaissance to the "Unseelie" court near the Wyld pillar to prover her loyalties. There, she discovered that the dark Fae had made a tentative alliance with the Deathlord known as First and Forsaken Lion. Under a promise to destroy the city of Gem and create a new shadowland, the Fae would gain the ability to stampede freely throughout the South, killing mortals as they pleased.
Veritas reported back to Owain but put her negotiations on hold to strike up an alliance with First and Forsaken Lion himself. She traveled through the shadowland at the Spires of Pyrron and made her way south through the Underworld to the Thousand, First and Forsaken Lion's massive underground palace. While at his court, she served as an oracle, gradually gaining his trust over a period of one hundred and fifty years. In the end, just a few years ago, Veritas saw that delivering Linowan into First and Forsaken Lion's hands as a shadowland would accelerate the process of bringing all Creation into Oblivion instead of just destroying Haltan's enemies.
So, she fled from his court and her home, returning to the keep given to her by the Fae near Haltan called Lunar Precipice. At this time, she learned of a Deathlord called the Onyx Razor who had acquired a shadowland to the south near the borders of the forest, directly southeast of the Linowan capital of Rubylak. His forces seemed powerful enough to take Rubylak but had made no effort to infringe on Haltan soil. He seemed like the best possible ally at the time, against both Linowan and First and Forsaken Lion.
